Kapila Gau Daan (कपिला गौदान) – The Sacred Gift of the Divine Cow

Kapila Gau Daan refers to the sacred act of donating a Kapila cow—a unique cow of black or reddish-brown hue, revered deeply in Hindu scriptures. This lineage includes notable varieties such as Shyamala (dark-hued), Dhumala (smoke-colored), and Nandini deeply praised in the scriptures for their purity and divine nature. Among Lord Krishna’s many beloved herds, the Kapila cow held a special place in His heart.

Among all forms of cow donation (Gau Daan), Kapila Daan is considered the most auspicious and spiritually potent. When offered with devotion and sincerity, it bestows immense blessings, spiritual elevation, and liberation—not only for the donor but also for their ancestors.

These Kapila cows, now housed at a local farm in Reading, were rescued from slaughter. Today, they are being lovingly served and cared for, allowing donors to directly support a life of dignity and devotion for these divine beings.
